MEDIS (Modular Electronic Document Imaging Solution) is a distributedclient/server electronic data file management system that distributesdata processing loads among a variety of commercially available hardwareplatforms (UNIX, PC, Macintosh) across TCP/IP networks. It supports XWindow System and Microsoft Windows user interfaces. MEDIS convertsproprietary formatted files to standardized formats compliant with thepublished standards within the CALS (Computer-aided Acquisition andLogistics Support) initiative. MEDIS readily interfaces with existingsystems and off-the-shelf software, utilizing standards such as NFS, SQL,and RPC, and it offers computerized data file control and accesssecurity.MEDIS facilitates file conversion, importation, indexing, storage,retrieval and distribution, viewing, redlining, editing, printing, andexporting. MEDIS incorporates a database server module (Docu-Dex), and auser interface client module (DXIM), which manage search methods,workflow management, third-party applications and security per thecustomer's specifications.
